Children
Speech and language therapy services are also provided in group settings when necessary. Children learn from their clinician, who provides them with instructions. Additionally, children learn from each other when they interact with each other. Group therapy gives children opportunities to practice communication skills with their peers during the therapy session.
Children are most comfortable seeing that their peers are also working towards speech goals. When given the opportunity to practice skills during speech therapy sessions, children are confident to carry-over learned skills outside the therapy sessions. Group therapy may be provided in client’s home setting, daycare, and school setting.
Adults
Adults may also benefit from group therapy. Group therapy may be available to clients who receive services in residential facilities.
